Chicago Public Schools (CPS) serves 396,000 students in 665 schools. It is the nation’s third-largest school district. Rada’s practice completed projects at more than 70 school sites, most of which are located in neglected and economically challenged neighborhoods.
RADA Architects was among the first to commit to urgently needed services to keep schools open as part of the extensive capital improvement program started at the end of the 1990s. In the first years of the program, RADA Architects was involved on multiple sites for interior and exterior renovation work, including ADA improvements for region 6 magnet schools, Theophilus Schmidt School, Poe Classical Academy and Kelly High School. In the recent years, the firm performed urgently needed work for Ruiz, Holmes, McAuliffe, Sexton and Bond schools that included interior ADA work and exterior envelope improvements, window replacements, reroofing, new construction (including new classrooms and elevator additions), educational enhancements (science labs and computer rooms), and other school facilities (gyms, play lots, and athletic fields).
